Thanks, that leaves us with the peculiar egg laying on Black Medic.

Re: Male blue egg laying
Thanks both, not the best picture in the world but I think its posture is consistent with it being female, and it's not great a great picture to be able to confidently say CB or AB. The black medic is consistent with CB so I think a very blue female common blue is the most likely explanation. Bill 1...

Male blue egg laying
A friend has sent me a sketchy picture of a blue which appears to be egg laying on black medic on her lawn and wondered whether it could be Adonis Blue. We discussed food plants and how I thought it was more likely to be common blue and I sent her the picture from here highlighting the difference in...
Re: May 2019
Apologies for the poor image quality (phone camera) but this was a Duke of Burgundy I spotted while leading a butterfly walk at a nearby site today (15/05/19). It seems to have the same unclassified aberration as one of those in the image library here from BadgerBob, so thought it might be interesti...

Re: Annual 2018 Competition
Thanks to Pete for running this competition and website and to the judges who have the task of picking a winner. I must say it was a lovely surprise to win, looking at the page of top 15 the standard of entries in this competition is very high so well done to all that entered. I particularly liked N...

Re: 2015 annual competition
Well done to all those who entered and thanks as always to Pete and his fellow judges for taking the time to judge the competition. As everyone else has said, Iain's Small Blue was outstanding but his Wood White is also an absolute corker! Well done Iain, all the podium and everyone who entered. Che...

Wow I totally did not realise that happens. I'm sure I've seen that in the past but have always put it down to mis-identification on my part.

Re: Annual 2014 Competition
Congratulations to the winners, some stunning images as usual my favourite was Nigel's Swallowtail, it's so hard to get it all in focus like that. But I also really liked the Green-Underside Blue by the Annoying Czech too. And thanks to the Pete, Lisa and Gary for putting in the time to judge the en...

Re: Heath Fritillary - ab or not?
Thanks Guy, I hadn't spotted the Meadow Fritillary as a possibility it's certainly a closer match on the underside than Heath.
Cheers

Heath Fritillary - ab or not?
Hi folks
I saw this a couple of weeks ago in France, NE of Toulouse. The first question is, is it a Heath Fritillary and if so is it an aberration or within normal variance?
Many thanks in advance for any help

Re: Fracking – Barton Moss Greater Manchester
Many thanks for your additional information, Bill - I take your point about the dishwasher etc and, I guess, it is not difficult to manage these so that they are 'on' when the solar energy is available. Sorry for not responding sooner - I had missed following this thread for a while. Mike No worrie...

Re: Fracking – Barton Moss Greater Manchester
The attached image shows production from one day earlier this week. Green line is solar output, orange line is imported. Spikes are the kettle etc. Many thanks for sharing this information. It's interesting to see that the peak power output on a sunny Winter's day could just about power your kettle...

Re: Favourite Photo of 2013
This is mine, the story is a bit dull to most people but I hope some here will find it amusing/interesting and empathise with how sometimes it all just comes together in a lucky sort of way. I don't think the result is all that special but it is special for me and I hope I will remember taking this ...

Re: Fracking – Barton Moss Greater Manchester
Can anyone tell me why every single new home built doesn't come with fully operational solar panels? This is not the answer to all our energy needs,of course. With all the new houses going up everywhere, Britains energy needs will increase in future, in line with population increase. Could anyone w...

Thanks to all the judges for putting in time to judge the entries, there were some absolutely stunning shots this so congratulations to all who entered. Re: Lens Flare - Sigma 150 non-IS
Odd, I was expecting more folks having noticed a problem, maybe it's mine or how I'm using it
.
I should have said, I always use a lens hood and filter. I'll check it without the filter when I get the chance and check the lens for signs of misting.
Thanks all
Bill

Lens Flare - Sigma 150 non-IS
Hi folks Over the years using my Sigma 150 macro, both with and without the Sigma 1.4 tele converter, I've encountered quite bad lens flare when shooting into the general direction of the sun. I'm not talking about the artifacts but the haze which can rob the shot of contrast and saturation. Of cour...
