Re: Black Veined Whites?
One of the Facebook butterfly groups I’m on has a post showing a BVW in Cheshire! Don’t know if genuine as he hasn’t specified where in Cheshire. If so, yet another release?

Re: April 2019
Hi everyone, Just seen my first Green Hairstreaks of the year in the Peak District - on Lantern Pike, to be precise. I've never known them this early up here; usually they're not around until at least the end of April/start of May! There were at least five, all very flighty. Here's a quick phone sn...

Re: September 2017.
3 September Nairnshire Peacocks and Tortoiseshells have moved north. Torties were in decent numbers but now presumably hibernating. Peacocks still in large numbers but tailing of slightly. But a week or two ago Peacocks in abundance that matched anything I had seen anywhere in UK. (except a newly e...

Re: September 2017.
Latest transect from yesterday:
8 Red Admiral
5 Speckled Wood
3 Gatekeeper
1 Green Veined White
Still not a single Peacock or Small Tortoiseshell in this area. Anyone from the Pennines regions or NW experiencing the same thing?

Same here, I spotted one this year when I haven't seen one before. I wonder, has it been a good year for them?

Thanks Neil! I will look out for Elm trees as I haven't seen any round here at all, so I didn't think it would be possible we would get this species!

Hairstreak ID?
Hello All! A bit of excitment on my part in the garden just now with this little visitor. I guessed it was a White-letter Hairstreak, but would like some help from you guys in IDing it. Re: September 2013
As the season is winding down I wasn't expecting to see many butterflies now. But today the last few remaining buddleia flowers are covered in small tortoishells! At least 10-15 at any one time. They're all in pristine condition so I assume a brood nearby has just emerged, to appear all of a sudden.

Does seem that has been quite a lot of rain in North Africa and more to come by the looks of it, thanks to the jetstream being so far south. I think this bodes well
