Three specimens were caught in Savernake Forest, Wiltshire, on 22nd August 1922. These specimens, originally misidentified as Long-tailed Blue, are believed to have been the offspring of a female accidentally transported from India.
The species was first defined in Hewitson (1863) as shown here and as shown in this plate (type locality: Sulawesi, Indonesia). The nominate subspecies has not been recorded in Britain or Ireland.
This subspecies was first defined in Moore (1879) as shown here (type locality: Calcutta, India). Records from Britain and/or Ireland are of this subspecies.
