Green-veined White - Favourite Photo of 2012
Here is the opportunity to post your favourite photo(s) of a particular species taken in 2012 (or the last time you saw one!).
This is part of a series of topics which will grow over 20 weeks throughout the winter until all 59 UK species have been covered. The intention is to showcase three species per week (in alphabetical order), so please wait until a topic has been opened by me for a particular species before posting photos. Our overseas friends are very welcome to fill in the obvious gaps relating to rare UK migrants.
Details of locations, dates, times and circumstances would be welcome and please feel free to contribute observations of behaviour, stories of personal encounters, anecdotes or other interesting points.

Green Veined White
This was my favourite Green Veined White shot of the year beause I liked the pose – alien almost and because it was taken totally by chance during a visit to my sister in-laws in early August. The girls were running around and I was trying to get shots of Peacocks when I happened to turn around, focused and “click”, the shot was in the bag!
Have a goodun

Hunting Pearl Bordered Fritts at Abbotts Wood on May 11th came across a mating pair of Green Veined White. The start of a great late afternoon butterfly hunting. The other photo shows the veins standing out against the light.

My favourite Green Veined White image was taken on an overcast day in May.

I'm sure someone will identify the 'passenger' on this one for me! Taken near Longworth, Oxon in April.

Here are two views of a very early individual, seen on 28th March when spring still promised something reasonable and the temperatures were close to 20 degrees. The underside is markedly yellow.
Following that is the "now you see it, now you don't" sequence I snapped by accident on 14th October, over six months later.
All of these were taken local to me, near Heathrow. A long season...

Agreed, a lovely photo.badgerbob wrote:That image by Nigel Kiteley is one of the best images I've seen all year!!
The Green-veined white is a special favourite of mine, I just like its simple and subtle beauty.
A couple of shots below from my back garden back in May,
and this nicely marked female from Oversley Wood in August.
I had begun to get bit worried about the lack of 'whites' and this one was one of the first of the summer brood that I saw. After this I started seeing all three 'common whites' in increasing numbers.
Cheers,
Neil F.

Full top-side views of most Whites are difficult to get, but I was lucky to catch this fresh second-brood male basking at one of my local sites.
I can't actually find any side views of this species from this year.

Green-veined Whites for me were hard to come by this year, which is perhaps surprising as i thought the wet weather would benefit this damp loving species. Perhaps 2013 numbers will be higher,i hope so.
This adult was near my home in april.
