I'll be in Dublin in mid May. Does anyone have any tips on where to go for Marsh Fritillary and Cryptic Wood White within reasonable distance from the city? Ideally by public transport.
Weather permitting I'll have a day.

Hi Edward,

A few years ago I saw Marsh Fritillary at North Bull Island. If you go, just head north east, walk past St Anne's golf club, and keep going until you reach significant patches of Devil's-bit Scabious.

I don't know about CWW near Dublin, I'm afraid.

I'm sorry this doesn't help much, but you may be able to do some more digging that might help pinpoint a specific site. When I travelled to Dublin last year for the Yellow-crowned Night Heron, I remember various groups of birders saying they were trying for CWW somewhere near the Dublin ferry terminal.

I've never been but if they are found near the ferry terminal (based on what google maps street view is showing me) Irishtown Nature park might be worth visiting and the banks along the Royal Canal just before it drains into the river look quite unkempt and insect friendly. Also anywhere accessible along the river Liffey west of Phoenix Park looks quite promising. Again this is just all based on internet browsing with zero real life experience!
