Interesting Book

i came across an interesting butterfly book this afternoon on a charity stall.
it is entitled Butterflies & Moths of the British Countryside. It is a reprint of an 1896 book.

there are various lovely illustrations including the frontispiece which you can see here:
i was surprised to see that the Monarch ( or Brack-veined Brown ) was listed as an indigenous British species in 1896.

Charles ,I think the Greasy Fritillary is the old name for the Marsh Frit;..........Happy to be corrected ! Allan.W.

i think the DIngy Skipper should be renamed to something more upbeat also
