Ditto all the remarks about those being great pictures, JKT. I especially like the
pumilio, which shows well the darkness of this species and the faint spotting on the underside. I've only ever seen
nostrodamus, in Portugal.
And don't worry - I won't be producing that classic
acteon shot any time soon. Here is my garden/butterfly meadow this morning:
More snow is due...

Everyone, thanks for your kind comments!

And I've only seen G. pumilio - on consecutive years in the same spot within a few meters.

Oh dear! The winter always comes - sooner or later.

I hope I won't need skis in the Dolomites in two weeks...

A very nice set of images, thanks for sharing them. My favourite is probably your Hipparchia shot, love the composition and the soft background with very complemetary colours.
I'm off to Rhodes this week so hopefully I can get a few shots myself!
All the best

JKT, What an amazing collection of images. You must be very happy with them. Could you please satisfy my curiosity by letting me know what equipment you use. Particularly whether you use a tripod and remote cable release.
Thanks,
Robin

Well, yes. I wouldn't be showing them otherwise.

Canon 20D and Tamron 180/3.5. No tripod and usually available light. The
G. pumilio was an exception as I used the built-in flash to lighten the underside. That one and
C. thyrsis were taken prone, so it was a bit like shooting rifle, which makes it a lot easier.

You sure do! In fact you've shown here quite a few that I'd love to have on my pages.
