Yesterday's unrelenting gloom was replaced by something slightly brighter today (30th), and it remained pleasantly warm. My usual local walk actually produced four butterflies - two widely separated male Small Whites and two Red Admirals flying around the same patch of nettles.

Working in the "desert" at Dungeness earlier today doing a bit of Scrub bashing ,removing a lot of Bramble /Sallow growth that was swamping several of the small shallow ponds ,glorious weather (17c) ,still a few Common Darters about ,including at least 2 ovipositing pairs
but best of all a Painted Lady and a Small White ,and although there are still one or two good groups of Ragwort flowering .....no Small Coppers ! also no sign of any of the 10+ Dartford Warblers that are about.......too much noise and Smoke !

Mostly a birding trip on the local wetlands today (Black-necked Grebe and Cetti's Warbler were the pick of the day on that front) but a freshly emerged Speckled Wood escaped my lens and this equally fresh Red Admiral also nearly escaped

Thursday 31st

Beautiful day today on the Gower coast. 16c and barely a breath of wind. 9 butterflies seen.

Lower Kilvey Hill:

Speckled Wood 3
Red Admiral 1

Limeslade/Bracelet Bay:

Red Admiral 4

There was also a Red Admiral in Kittle as I was driving home.
