Nice find, Allan. They've had a wonderful time this spring. Hopefully this will have allowed them to disperse a little more than usual.

It'd be nice for them to recolonise the whole of the southern part of the country.

I'm surprised that none (as far as i'm aware )have been reported from Essex as yet David (l) ........and David (m) at least two records from Cornwall and Portland .....they're getting closer to you ... fingers crossed !

The last sighting of a Large Tortoiseshell in [the vice-counties of] Essex was March 2022 at Wanstead Park, so technically in London. And a year before that in Romford near Zayed's patch at Harrow Lodge Park [Again, technically in London]. I have been looking though this year in places like Hatfield Forest - if they were to start a colony in Essex, I think it would be there, or Friday Wood, perhaps.

A large Tort; this morning in the trapping area at Dungeness (Kent) ,records almost annual now from here .
