Re: Daily Quiz
I enjoy a traditional practice called 'thirsting after righteousness', which means, in layman's language, getting hammered after church. In other words, you will have to wait until tomorrow for your next daily question if it's to have any chance of making sense (and don't forget it's an hour later here, too). I'll try and devise something to keep you thinking for another 24 hours...

Re: Daily Quiz
I'm sure some members are wondering "what on earth are this mob on about". So - some explanations:
Clue: "After taking advice from http://www.anti-aging.org/, no more disparaging remarks were made about this critter."
Answer: Removing "aging" from "disparaging", and you're left with "dispar" - the specific name of the Large Copper.
Clue: "I spend some time upset about the weather, later I skirt the woodland which holds this creature."
Answer: "the weather, later I skirt" is an anagram of "White-letter Hairstreak".
Clue: "As I am a logical lad, creating this question is easy."
Answer: "am a logical lad" is an anagram of "Ladoga camilla" - the scientific name of the White Admiral.
Cheers,
- Pete

Re: Daily Quiz
I'm thinking of two butterflies. If one is a hundred-eyed monster, the other is presumably a fifty-eyed monster. What are they?

Re: Daily Quiz
Well, the hundred-eyed monster (in Greek and Latin fables) was argus. And the fifty-eyed monster would be "semi" argus
So - Silver-studded Blue and Mazarine Blue.

Hundred-eyed
(The). Argus, in Greek and Latin fable. Juno appointed him guardian of Io [the cow], but Jupiter caused him to be put to death, whereupon Juno transplanted his eyes into the tail of her peacock.
So Brown Argus and Peacock?

Re: Daily Quiz
Both good - and both got the 'Argus' connection. But it was silver-stud and mazarine I had I mind, so well done Pete!
The sun is back! Yippee! That's not a clue either - it's just me happy that I can get out and about today.

Re: Daily Quiz
HEDDA HIGGS was puzzled. Just what was that butterfly?
Her friend PADDY was no help in the quest to identify.
Cousin FIONA fared no better nor did next door neighbour SAUL.
Hedda was exasperated. She could find no help at all.
I know, she thought, just where to go. She climbed the mountainside
To seek a scholar and his friend and have this lep identified.
The people in this small sad tale were completely unaware
That the rearranged letters of their names would reveal the famous pair!

Re: Daily Quiz
Well done Denise - correct.
So - it seems that we now have 2 competitions on the go!
Denise - if you don't mind, and so that we don't cause mass confusion, I suggest we treat Alex's entry as the next quiz.
Alex - the "rules of the game" are that the first person to answer the question correctly gets to ask the next question!
Cheers,
- Pete

Re: Daily Quiz
I'm far too modest to answer this, as is my faithful companion, so if Alex takes that as sufficient I'll lob the ball at Denise!!
We have, indeed, spent the day up the mopuntain, and just returned. When/if I catch the ball again I might post a blue or Erebia for you to identfy!!

Re: Daily Quiz
I've spent 'hours' trying to find two Latin names that fit!
Silly me, should have taken the mountain as a clue.
and a scholar, to have the lep identified.
Really good Alex. Well done.

Re: Daily Quiz
Thanks folks.
Riddle me this,
My first is in Scotland, but never down south.
My seconds in shout and also in mouth.
My third is in beauty but not in flight.
My fourth is in eloquent, it's out of sight.
My fifth is in aqua but water it's not,
My sixth is in hike, I do this a lot.
My seventh is in scrabble, but not in the game.
My eighth is in student and is the same,
My ninth is in condo, wow, what a view,
My last is a captain, but never a crew.
Who am I?
