I have received another article for European Butterflies Magazine.

David Moore has written about his Greenwings trip to the Italian Piedmont Alps.

The highlight here was the Scarce Fritillary, but there were also several other rare species, including Alcon Blue.

Nick Morgan has written an article about summer butterflies in Cyprus.

There are some very interesting local species.

I liked the Levantine Leopard or Tawny Silver-line and the Little Tiger Blue.

Tom Brereton has sent me an article via Naturetrek about butterflies in Normandy, France.

These photos of Scarce Swallowtail and Southern White Admiral are from Shutterstock.

Andy Adcock has written an interesting article about the butterflies he encountered living near St Petersburg.

I am counting Russia in Europe - but I am not going as far as the European Golf Tour who include South Africa, Australia and Asia in Europe!!

There are some rare butterflies found here- Pallas's Fritillary, Poplar Admiral and Scarce Fritillary.

That should be interesting, Jason. Not a part of the world we hear much about from a butterfly perspective.

Mike Prentice, Chairman of the European Butterflies Group, has written an article about the conservation effort for the Spanish Greenish Black-tip, found only in two isolated colonies in Spain.

Fabulous, Jason. I shall be extremely interested to read that.

Dan Danahar has written an article about the development of Corfu Butterfly Conservation and their 5 year project to record the butterflies of Corfu.

He has sent an excellent set of photographs. I didn't think he had sent their names at first and one photo of a white butterfly with red spots sent me looking in about 6 books before I decided it must be some sort of Argus. it is in fact an aberrant Brown Argus - a White Brown Argus! See also a stunning photo of a Mallow Skipper.

Wild Echo have written an article introducing the butterflies of Armenia.

The butterfly species look familiar but are fascinatingly different.

Look forward to this as I was in Armenia last year on a general natural history tour + the butterflies were a mix of the familiar with others not quite so. I believe a book on the Armenian butterflies is in preparation but not sure when publication is due. Great country for sure!

The third issue of the magazine has gone to my designer.

The process should take about 8 to 10 weeks, so publication will hopefully be in late March.

The front cover has already been designed - see attached.

The last article for the magazine has been written by Dave Maertens about his trip to Eastern Turkey last summer.

Turkey has over 380 species of butterfly - probably as many as the whole of Europe!

There are many interesting species, with subtle variations from the European species.

See attached photos of Yellow-banded Skipper and Zephyr Blue by Dave Maertens.

Those are wonderful images of two very desirable butterfly species. I shall look forward to reading the article.

This butterfly is beautifully marked on both surfaces and has the bonus of the blue or purple sheen as well.

On the upperside the males are similar to the Dark Green Fritillary, the females I see in Switzerland are usually powerfully marked in black.

The underside is a subtle change from the High Brown Fritillary, with cream/yellow spots instead of white/silver and smaller red encircled spots.

The underside is well illustrated here with a attractive background of yellow flowers.

I have received the first printed proof of the magazine.

There are a few minor changes to make, but hopefully printing will be next week or early the following week.

This is an A4 magazine, 36 pages.

Articles in the magazine cover Butterflies in the Piedmont Alps in Italy, in Valgaudamar in France and in the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. The development of Corfu Butterfly Conservation is featured. Conservation work of the European Butterflies Group in Spain is described. Naturetrek describe the butterflies of Normandy in France. There are features on Cardinal Fritillaries in Switzerland and the Lapland Fritillary in Turkey. Articles also cover butterflies in North East Hungary, St Petersburg in Russia and in Eastern Turkey.
