Re: September 2009 Sightings
Red admiral and Speckled woods galore here, never seen so many I found a few speckled woods as I left my house and about 5-6 not far away, along with about 10 red admirals and 1 Painted Lady, looking still a bit fresh, it was an ab though as it did not have any blue spots and was a bit dark, no photo though. Saw 20 more red admirals in a place that used to be used for keeping pigs, thats now overgrown and has a new wytch elmo growing there. Fueling up for hibernation?
Speckled wood males were chasing the red amirals about, I saw one male speckled wood chase 3 red admirals out of its territory, one after the other. Here is two shots I managed to get today. The red admirals seemed flinchy and some were hard to get close to.
This one is on a wall where there is virgina creeper growing:

Re: September 2009 Sightings
it was a great shot of a Red ad's underwing. Which is something that has foiled me thus far.

Cheers,,, Zonda.

Re: September 2009 Sightings
oops
my spellings bad today, I didn't even notice until someone actually said, its actually virgina creeper, probably guessed.

Thanks, for me its really easy to get an underwing shot with the abundance of Red Admirals here, just getting the whole butterfly in focus without a slight bit of it unfocused is not easy for me.it was a great shot of a Red ad's underwing. Which is something that has foiled me thus far.

Hi all,
I've had a word with Dave's agent and booked him for the BC Sussex AGM. Roy 'Chubby' Brown's going on first as the warm-up.

Re: September 2009 Sightings
Can I suggest that Dave edits his post back to how it was.
I had a really awful day at work, and that post gave me the first smile I have had all day.
Thanks Dave.

Re: September 2009 Sightings
The word you're looking for, Dave, is "Virginia". Thought I'd better mention it since your correction is just as hilarious as the original
Wasn't "wytch elmo" one of the muppets?
Oh boy - I think I'm going to have to ban myself at this rate.
Cheers,
- Pete
