Scents and Colours

Post by Chris L »

Yesterday I encountered some people who I think had pheromones on them to attract Emperor Moths, judging by the conversation I overheard.

Could one potentially put a scent on one's person to attract butterflies? I have read about the Marbled White being musky, the Wall smelling like chocolate cream, the Meadow Brown having the scent of an old cigar box and the Green Veined White having a lemon verbena odour.

I have also wondered if wearing a brightly coloured t-shirt might attract butterflies. I once wore a vivid yellow pair of shorts on a butterfly adventure which successfully attracted lots of tiny black flies

Sounds a lyric from Syd era Pink Floyd, Chris.

I'm not sure I'd be very popular on the 270 bus with a heavy splash of Purple Emperor attracting after-shave on ;-)

I have also read the aroma of a Meadow Brown being akin to old, smelly socks.
