Cryptic Wood White - Favourite Photo of 2018
Week 4
Another week passes and still the butterflies fly…just in some cases. Still only another 20 weeks or so and we’ll be back in the butterflies. In the mean time…
Please could I ask that everyone waits until a topic has been opened by me for a particular species before posting photos as then it will be easier to keep track of things? Of course our overseas members are very welcome to fill in the obvious gaps relating to rare UK migrants. As in previous years details of locations, dates, times and circumstances would be welcome as would any accompanying stories and anecdotes or other observations of behaviour and interesting other points.
Have a goodun

I made the long journey to Northern Ireland to see the final of the UK resident species this year. I timed it perfectly and the weather was great which meant there were really good numbers flying at Craigavon Lakes. It was very interesting to see the different habitat and the almost urban environment in which they fly compared with the mainland Wood White. The weather deteriorated for the next couple of days which meant a “non butterfly” trip to the Giants Causway - highly recommended.

Well done, Mark. I reckoned this thread would remain bereft of replies this year but you've proved that theory to be wrong.

I know this is cheating, but I did rear CWW through this year from eggs. Such a stunning pupa!

That is indeed a particularly beautiful pupa, Pete, and one I hope will be featured extensively in your book next year?
