Unusual caterpillar for ID please

This little fellow nearly went unnoticed, only 1" long approx. Any idea what he is?

Thank you so much for your help, I love photographing small creatures, insects etc.
This one completely threw me, although he was very accommodating with small movements or none at all for long periods.
More than I can say for ants on a hot day.
