Hampshire Garden Butterfly

Post by SimonJackson »

Hello all,
Yes I’m a newbie searching for an identification. I have never seen this butterfly before so I wonder if someone can tell me what it is please?

It’s not a very big butterfly about an inch in length maybe a bit more. It was sitting comfortably on the grass of my lawn, surrounded worryingly by my chickens (but I moved the ladies on).

The images are not too bad and I have lots of close in video. The wings had a green sheen to them and the under wing and body was a vibrant bright red.

I’m in North Hampshire if it helps,

Many thanks,
Sam Jackson
