Hya mate, great to meet you today at Alners gorse. I hope you have some great images from Dorset's top spots. I haven't got a decent BH this year yet, but i'm hopeful for the week ahead. Look after the wife and kids,,,, regards Zonda.

Dorset Dukes Thriving
The Dukes are spreading out, and increasing in numbers at Cerne Abbas. I don't know the highest transect count so far, but it must be good news. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7244/7272926386_795078b759_z.jpg Duke of Burgundy (mating pair) by frankinzonda , on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/721...

Re: Green hairstreak
Cracking shot Zonda! What site was it at as I've been struggling to find them this year? Also how you been, haven't heard from you since last year? Well, been birding all winter, and posting to Flickr. Hope you are well, and this one (and it was only one) was spotted at DWT Kilwood Nature Reserve, ...

Hya Jack, it was a year backwards from last Sunday when i found myself puffing up over Sand Point with you, in search of Glanvilles Frits. We were dead lucky that day, finding a few fresh ones. Hope you are well, and try to keep the lid on the frog box.

Re: Another open-winged Purple Hairstreak (yawn)
This is a cracking shot Paul, and i've not seen it previously. The only open-winged one i got this season (so far) was right down in the grass, so i'm dead jealous.

Re: Snogging Hairstreaks
They weren't conjoined,,, they parted and went their separate ways, without consumating, so probably a rebuff, or just two males sparring (red deer fashion), as observed by Paul Wetton. I can't tell the sexes apart by the underwings. Its not a great shot, because they took me by surprise, and i neve...

Re: Zonda
July the 26th is my day for seeing my season's first Brown Hairstreak. Although other people have spied one earlier this year, it was written that i should not see mine before the 26th July. This one, with it's head thrown back like a balerina in 'Giselle' or 'The Firebird', feeds heartily on the fl...
