Re: Iguazu Falls

Thanks for the replies.

It was a magical place, the birdlife was amazing too.

Later on in the holiday we were on a site in the Falkland Islands where their Fritillary flies. We were too late!

Iguazu Falls

Hi My wife and I have just returned from a South American holiday, where we spent a day at the Iguazu Falls in Argentina. Stunning place, but it was 36 degrees and very humid, so I didn't take many pictures. I just enjoyed the whole experience as the butterflies were all doing a million miles an hou...

Brown Argus query

Hi Both of these photos were taken on 9th August at Lac des Gloriettes in the French Pyrenees. Argus A.JPG I think this is A.cramera as it is well marked with rounded wingtips. The image in T&L looks right. Argus C.JPG This screams A. artaxerxes to me, but on checking Leraut I find that A. artax...

I do love a Sooty Copper. This one was photographed in a Nature reserve near Geneva on August 1st last year.

Regarding the Fritillary, It is the positioning of the underside light patches that look different to the other two. It also looks smaller.

Re: A French Finale – July 2023

What a fantastic Maculinea fest. Where are we going next?

Can anyone help with the Fritillary on the left in the picture below.

Taken on the way down from the Col de Glandon. Looks like Grisons to me, but I may be wrong.

Thanks

Re: A Greek Meze: lifers, half-lifers, and near-misses in Macedonia

The flora was amazing. My personal favourite was the Lizard Orchids.

I think the attached is Balkan Lizard Orchid Himatoglossom calcaratum subsp.jankae but may be wrong!

For such a striking plant, you could easily walk past without seeing them. They were over 2 feet tall and had no smell.

What a trip, so many memories!

Here's my Yellow Legged Tortoiseshell picture.

I only got the one. To be honest I didn't give it too much attention as I was looking for Clouded Apollo's at the time. Wish I had now.

Can I ask a couple of questions please.

Who decides what is an official release and what isn't, and who decides who is the official mouthpiece?

Just wondering!

Ringlet aberration

Hi I was on a family walk near Appleby in Westmorland this weekend when I saw the aberrant Ringlet Ringlet pictured below. Sorry about the image quality, It was taken on my phone. Sods law says if you see something that special, you don't have your camera with you! Anyway, thought it was worth shari...
