Many thanks Pete, another species to look out for at this particular site! Off there again today so, hopefully, will find a few more Brown Argus.
Cheers,
Sylvia.

Re: Female Common Blues?
Thank you all for your assistance and apologies for not responding sooner - away for weekend!! I am embarrased now at having, perhaps, wrongly identified the second butterfly as a female blue!! I didn't particularly notice that is was discernably smallerl than what now transpires was a female...

Female Common Blues?
Could anyone assist, please? The attached were taken a few weeks ago but I am now not sure whether they are both female common blue's. I am fairly confident that Common Blue 2 is a female common blue but confused by the blue colouring in the markings on the 1st picture. Any assistance greatly apprec...

Re: October 2008 votes
Sylvia Godfrey Nice head-on shot of a Small Skipper, and you've done well to get the proboscis in focus. The fly is a bit annoying but the composition is very good with a nice balance of the butterfly and the flowerhead. Thanls for your comments, Pete, and congratulations on your winning picture - ...

Re: Not Lepidoptera (Birds)
[quote="Shirley Roulston"]I remember seeing the Red Kites on that farm, isn't that the farm where the famer feeds the birds and there are dozens of Red Kites come in to feed. Thanks for your comments on the swans, they are magnificant birds. There are so many in the canal basin at Exeter i...

Hi Shirley, Glad you liked the pics, I like to try out anything I see!!! The geranimums are all from my garden, I have about 200 different ones, obsessive I know!!! The magazine I subscribe to is Digital Photo. I find the magazine really informative with some good tips covering a range of items, fro...

Re: Not Lepidoptera (Flowers, plants)
Ahhh, I just love the spring, everything so new and fresh. My favourite spring flower, if I had to choose, would be magnolia blossom - so perfect!! On a slightly different note, I found a couple of free border on the photo magazine that I subscribe to and tried them out, not for the purist I suppose...

Re: Not Lepidoptera (Birds)
Hi everyone, I've really loved looking at all the bird photo's so thought I might post a few of my own. My sister and I are off to Costa Rica in February (hopefully the anticipation will make the worst of the winter pass more quickly :D ). We have been trying to practice taking "action" sh...

Re: September 2008 votes

Re: Sorry - Another Moth!!!
Many thanks JKT, that would make sense, having found the species on the UKMOTHS web site it indicates that this species favours coastal locations and sandhills. I photographed this moth at Braunton Burrows in North Devon.
Cheers,
Sylvia.

Re: Moth ID
Many thanks to you both, I had looked in the books that I have but couldn't seem to find anything that matched - probably my poor photographs making ID more difficult!!
Thanks again,
Sylvia.

Can anyone assist with the identification of this moth, please? I found it in my kitchen and photographed it before releasing it back into the garden.

Re: Brown Argus or Female Common Blue?
Thanks for the update. I didn't think I was going to have the time to get out again in the near future but, weather permitting, I hope to return to Braunton Burrows next Friday. I'm sure I'll enjoy the walk even if I don't find anything - wish me luck!

Hi Marcin, I felt that I had to add to the comments already made in respect of your photographs. I would think that you must be very proud of them. I don't have any specialist knowledge of art, photography, or anything else come to that :) , I just know what I like when I see it - and I love them an...

Re: Brown Argus or Female Common Blue?
Hi Roger, Nice to hear from a fellow Devonian. This was the first time I had visited the Burrows, what a fantastic place, I shall certainly be visiting again! I only spent four hours there and I was hooked. As you can imagine I only covered a small portion, it was beautiful. We really are lucky to l...

Re: Brown Argus or Female Common Blue?
Hi Guy, We started on our quest in May and I now have 26 different species, not too bad I don't think considering the summer we are having? I am trying to persuade my sister that male and female of the same species should count as two, but she's having none if it as she is already behind my count!! ...

Apologies on my comment regarding the Brown Argus and Braunton Burrows, it is indeed listed as a species that can be found at this location
