Re: Tips on what camera to get
I saw tham at Haddon on Friday and Awlescombe on Saturday. Ooh, you know how to hurt Roger! I was at Haddon on Thursday (26th) though not sure if we were in the right place. I have not been to the site before nor seen Heath Fritillary but my wife, who did the research, says we were at the grid ref ...

Re: Tips on what camera to get
Annie, I have just returned from a (disastrous) few days on Exmoor looking for Heath Fritillary - cool wind all the time and rain for much of the time, not a sniff of the target species! Thank you for your comments and apologies if I offended anybody, it was not intended and having had a good look a...

Re: Tips on what camera to get
Not out to make friends are you Patrick  Gruditch I'm certainly not out to make any enemies Gary but I can understand you being a little upset if you are starting to think you may have wasted your money on a DSLR  My intention is to offer good, friendly and helpful advice to Annie who ...

Re: Tips on what camera to get
Thanks Nick, So far I am not feeling any desperate need to rush out and purchase a DSLR and think my original advice to Annie was sound. I have looked at the Competition entries for 2006/2007 and cannot see any info on equipment used and of course all pics are at low resolution. Are there no proud D...

Re: Tips on what camera to get
But if you want to learn WHY you need a DSLR, then use a Bridge or Compact first. Nick, It kind of worked the other way round for me! Although my first digital camera was a compact (Nikon Coolpix 4500), after a couple of years I thought I should really have a 'proper' camera and range of lenses etc...

Re: Tips on what camera to get
Surely the point about bridge cameras is that with a focal range of 35mm to 420mm (FZ 50) there is normally no need to change the lens (or carry those extra lenses around with you). For butterflies you will need the close-up lens but this is a featherweight single element unit. I agree that if you a...

Re: Orange Tip Eggs/early stages
Hi Dave, Our back garden runs down to a brook where there is plenty of Cuckoo Flower and earlier this year I noticed an Orange Tip egg on one of the plants. As this was right on the edge of an undercut bank and in danger of collapse I transplanted the plant and egg to a flower pot and took it indoor...

Re: Tips on what camera to get
Annie, My advice is to look at as many butterfly photographs as possible where camera details are given, you will soon see what sort of quality is possible with different set-ups. If you really feel you must have the absolute top class results which can be achieved using a DSLR then do consider the ...

Hello,
I am new to this forum and am wondering about file sizes for attachments.
Should I reduce the resolution before posting any photographs or is that
taken care of automatically?
Patrick
