Thanks for the advice and due to travel problems, my friend didn't make it in time to go anywhere so we just had some Small Whites and yes, Painted Ladies in the garden.

Perhaps I can convince my friend now! The frustrating thing is i saw another tatty 'Large' Tortoiseshell a couple of days later in a different area but never got a picture...

Hi, Can anyone help with the id of this tatty tortoiseshell taken on May 25th in the Biebrza marshes of Poland.
