Re: June 2015
A brief visit to East Blean Woods car park last night on the way home from work produced a very nice photo opportunity of the Heath Fritillary. I have tried for a photo from this angle for a few years now but with no planning, everything just fell into place. Certainly on of my better Heath Fritilla...

Re: July 2014
With a bit of luck today, and despite some atrocious weather conditions I managed to connect with my first ever British MONARCH at Ruckinge, Kent. It has been present 2 days now and after finding out it was still present and arranging access to the owners garden, I was treated to views as it shelter...

I was there today and not a single Heath Fritillary, but one fully grown caterpillar so may be a few weeks yet. I shall pop in throughout the week and let you know when I see my first. Re: April 2014
I made another trip back to East Blean Woods after work today in warm but cloudy conditions to see if I could find any Heath Fritillary caterpillars and after a good search was pleased to find 3 in a raised area with lots of moss, the biggest about 7mm long. Despite the lack of light I think I got m...

Help me to 50 species please in 2014!
It's been a great year and Kent certainly has produced some excellent sightings where I live near Herne Bay, Swallowtail and Long tailed Blues spring to mind. I have currently seen 48 species in Britain and aim to make the magic 50 mark next year. Living in Kent does have its issues sometimes and th...

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent
Utterly disgusting behaviour. If I were to see this behaviour when I was there that net would be thoroughly shuffed up their arse. I suggest if anyone is seen trying to net this species a photo is taken and publically put on the forum to be be disgraced and shamed. How people can do this to any butt...

Re: Swallowtail in Kent
Many thanks sandy73 for your kind words. Thankfully a friend called me who had found it and I was able to get not only a few pleasing shots of this pristine butterfly but very much appreciate its size and beauty as it fed a few feet away at times. Re: Which camera please?
I often bird with a friend who has a Canon 60d and when taking butterfly shots, his always seem to have a much better quality about them on the camera and when published, they seem to be of a much higher quality. I suppose i just want a much crisper image but I can certainly see the difference in qu...
