Dorset Branch of butterfly conservation shows a report of a Large Tortioseshell on 19 3 25 at Bere Regis, Dorset.
Not from the previous Dorset site of Church Ope Cove on the Isle of Portland, where none have been reported now for a couple of years.

Seen 3rd of August in a small patch of wildflower meadow in The Regent’s Park that is this year’s last refuge for the species there. In past years they have been over most of the Park.

On the subject of common blue numbers, I had feared that a central London site had died out(a small wildflower rich area near the Monkey Gate in Regeents Park) I saw none in April/May of the first brood. Then 2 females seen last week and 2 males on 3rd August.(so that’s 2 pairings possible, then!) I...

I should have added that the track is the one heading west, not the one heading towards the Dorsetshire Gap.

They say the best camera is the one you have with you. In this case an iPhone.(no cropping) A likely “new” colony near Dorchester, Dorset. Three seen , the others doing the usual treetop twirl. This one obliged at head level.

Spotted at perimeter of Regents Park Zoo on Buddleia. Looks like this ragged specimen got fed up with confinement and made a bid for freedom. Any Ideas?
