Re: Common Blue - Favourite Photo of 2024
Seen 3rd of August in a small patch of wildflower meadow in The Regent’s Park that is this year’s last refuge for the species there. In past years they have been over most of the Park.

Re: August 2024
On the subject of common blue numbers, I had feared that a central London site had died out(a small wildflower rich area near the Monkey Gate in Regeents Park) I saw none in April/May of the first brood. Then 2 females seen last week and 2 males on 3rd August.(so that’s 2 pairings possible, then!) I...

Re: Lulworth Skipper Dorset
I should have added that the track is the one heading west, not the one heading towards the Dorsetshire Gap.

Re: Lulworth Skipper Dorset
Hi Lawts, agree re Lulworth skipper. They are also found on the chalk ridgeway leading east from Corfe. (Also the best in Dorset for Dark Green Fritillary, dozens fly over low growing brambles at the top of the ridge.). For Silver Washed my recommendation is a little way from Corfe, just north of th...

They say the best camera is the one you have with you. In this case an iPhone.(no cropping) A likely “new” colony near Dorchester, Dorset. Three seen , the others doing the usual treetop twirl. This one obliged at head level.

Re: July 2022
An interesting c-album seen today 2 7 22 a mile or so east of Dorchester in Dorset.A bit ragged, even for a comma, and a little worn. I know they can vary a lot, but I wondered if this one was different enough to have its own “var”

Blue variant
Seen at Giant Hill, Cerne Abbas, Dorset 17th September 21. Both Adonis and Common Blues were flying. This Female was noted for the lack of markings underneath its wings. Slightly worn appearance at edges, but doesn’t seem to have black chequers of Adonis Blue. Then again the coloured spots on rear w...

Re: 2021 - Large Tortoiseshell
3 seen at Church Ope Cove , isle of Portland. Whilst chasing one up and down the beach with the camera my wife was casually taking mobile phone snaps like this. Photo is 22nd March 2021 at 13.46.
Escapee
Spotted at perimeter of Regents Park Zoo on Buddleia. Looks like this ragged specimen got fed up with confinement and made a bid for freedom. Any Ideas?
