Re: Butterfly sites in Norfolk
Wow I've never seen a white admiral there, I live close by too and am up there a lot, thats a great spot..... where did you see it? I saw a couple of brown argus there which I haven't seen there before, and there are lots of pretty common blues just along from the carpark (opposite the ice cream van...

Re: Butterfly sites in Norfolk
Also Holt Country Park car park for Silver washed Fritillaries on the buddleia. Also White Admirals here.
I'm still looking for a reliable site for White letter Hairstreaks.... seemed to have failed at Holkham and Mousehold... worried they are over now.

Re: May 2017
Went to Strumpshaw fen today in Norfolk and was overjoyed to see 5 pristine swallowtails. They were very active but came back to the same spots and almost landed on me a few times. I forget every year how beautiful their flight is, they glide so effortlessly! Took a ton of photos, but this one sums ...
Re: May 2017
Heard good things about Marsh Fritllaries at Chambers Farm Wood so took a trip up there yesterday and stumbled into a very large emergence! In just under one hour I counted 79 easily, could have been more but I was trying to be conservative and not get carried away. My first time seeing this butterf...

Re: Studying Ecology or Environmental science
Since then, I've buried myself in reading PhD theses covering differing species - including Chequered Skipper (Neil Ravenscroft), White Admiral (Barry Fox, who I met up with a few weeks ago), Marsh Fritillary (Ken Porter, Caroline Bulman and several others), etc. I've then put their work into effec...

Re: Studying Ecology or Environmental science
Thank you all so much for your advice and experiences. I think ultimately my goal is to get back into nature with more of a science background. As I child and teenager I was obsessed with butterflies but sadly left it all behind in search of a cooler vocation, I ended up being a DJ for years and wor...

Studying Ecology or Environmental science
HI there, I wondering if any of you good folk have any experience / recommendations for studying Environmental science with a view to taking it into butterfly conservation? I've already done a degree in a completely unrelated topic so can't really afford to do another degree course so was wondering ...

Re: Norfolk Butterfly Spots
Lovely, thanks everyone.
I saw my first butterfly of the year on the 15th March, balmy spring day that brought out a Brimestone and then a pair of peacocks. Then it turned cold again. Looking forward to this season, fingers crossed it will be better than last year.

Norfolk Butterfly Spots
Hi Folks, This is aimed more at anyone from Norfolk or those that have visited. I'm interested to know what are your favourite spots for butterflying? Last year I greatly enjoyed Foxley Woods, Holt Country Park, Buxton Heath and Warham Camp. I've done quite a few years on the Broads so looking for s...

Re: Eastern Region Purple Emperor report for 2014
Interested to know how this project is still going?
Would be so exciting to see Purple Emperors in Suffolk, I'm off to Fermyn wood this year to hopefully see my first.

Hi Folks
Just saying hi!
New BC member from Norfolk, though I have been butterflying for years..... thought it was time I signed up and communicated with a few more like minded people!
Looking forward to this year, many trips planned.
