Re: April 2025

Having missed out on capturing any pics of a Brown Argus on Friday, i returned to the same Kent location today (Monday) to try my luck once more! We had several spells of sunshine through the afternoon, an sure enough, the solitary male Brown Argus showed himself a few times. Other species were on t...

Re: April 2025

Good Friday, could have been Great Friday, if only i had been quick enough to capture a pic of a fresh Brown Argus, but it took flight an was whisked away by the wind!...The dueling Green Hairstreaks made up for missing the Brown Argus though, 10 species seen on the day, but all were low numbers, ni...

Re: November 2024

Red Admiral seen today in my Kent garden, at lunchtime. It basked briefly on the fence, then flew off. Nothing to keep it in the garden now, as all my late blooming white buddleia is well gone! Looking at the mild weather for this week, i would think there could be a few November sightings. No pics ...

Re: September 2024

If anyone's wondering why the weather has suddenly turned to #@*** again, I've just started a week off work, my bad, sorry  . Anyway, despite the weather I thought I'd take advantage of a promised window in the rain this afternoon down Essex way and investigate David Lazarus's newly discovere...

Re: September 2024

That's more like it! Today I paid a trip to Kirkby Moor Nature Reserve, Lincolnshire, and was pleased to find that third brood Small Coppers are now emerging in good numbers. An afternoon spent on site produced a very respectable count of 134 Small Coppers, which included one mating pair. Many of t...

Re: August 2024

Last Sunday i sighted 2nd brood Adonis on the wing, maybe 4 females, an 10 males. Also counted 4 mating pairs of 2nd brood Common Blues, so even though the numbers are down this season, its nice to actually find mating pairs! Silver Spotted Skippers still active, but not the numbers seen the previou...
