Re: Moth ID
Hi chaps,
If I might throw in my penny’s worth, my instinct says that it is a female reaumurella. Her antennae are half the length of those of the male and the outer halves are white, not just the ends.
All the best, Nigel.

Re: Overall Favourite Butterfly Photo of 2022
I have chosen this image of mating White Admirals as my overall favourite photograph of 2022, not for the quality of the image but for the quality of the moment. I had never before seen courtship in this species that led to mating. It was a good year for the White Admiral in my local East Sussex woo...

Re: Wall - Favourite Photo of 2022
Although the Wall is predominantly a downland species in East Sussex, discrete colonies can be found elsewhere. I have chosen two favourite photographs. The male was taking the early evening sunshine in a ditch-side reed bed on Pevensey Levels and the female was resting on a dead bracken frond in a ...

Re: Speckled Wood - Favourite Photo of 2022
I think this is my favourite Speckled Wood photograph of 2022. I could see that it was a fresh male but on a hot sunny day, it seemed to take ages to settle long enough for a picture.

Re: Large Chequered Skipper Favourite photos of 2022
I first happened upon this lovely little butterfly in 2013 when holidaying in France. It was the characteristic flight that drew my attention to it. They were very active in the hot sunshine but I returned during the early evening when they were a little more settled. http://eastsussexwanderer.blogs...

Re: Ringlet - Favourite Photo of 2022
Snap Allan! My favourite Ringlet photograph is of a similar specimen to the one above. I was on an early morning mission to look for Purple Hairstreaks in my local woods but the weather got duller and duller and this Ringlet was all that was on offer. Half of its spots were very slightly lanceolate ...

.....especially with bugle flowers David. I don't think that I have knowingly seen euphrosyne nectar on anything else in my local woods. This species does seem to have a particular affinity for the colour blue.
