Marsh Fritillary and Chequered Skipper - Ardnamurchan and North of Oban
Hi all, Apologies for asking the standard early summer Scotland question, but I have added a couple of extra queries to try make it less repetitive! Me and a couple of friends are taking a trip to Scotland from the 12th-16th June, starting off on Ardnamurchan on the 12th-14th. Since I am yet to see ...

Re: September 2018
Nice to find a couple of 2nd gen male Adonis Blues at Aston Rowant yesterday afternoon, my first ever sighting of this species. One was quite worn but the other was still pretty fresh showing the colour nicely
Re: July 2018
A good morning spent out and about in Salcey Forest, Northamptonshire, focusing on the area south of the horsebox car park at the east end. 17 species in total including my 49th (PE) and 50th (BH) in Britain: Small Skipper Large Skipper Brimstone - 1 fresh male Large White Small White Green-veined W...

Black Hairstreak and Wood White - M40/M1 corridor
I am planning on a trip down to Aston Rowant for Adonis Blue in the coming week and since I'll be in the area I was wondering if there were any particularly reliable sites people would recommend for Black Hairstreak (seemingly around the Oxford area) and Wood White (mostly over towards Milton Keynes...
Re: May 2018
Nice morning at Strawberry Banks NR in the Cotswolds today seeing my first ever Marsh Fritillary. At least 2 pristine individuals were found in a short search. Also seen were my first Dingy Skipper (10+), Common Blue (2) and Small Heath (1) of the year. Later had a quick walk round Betty Daw's Wood ...
Re: May 2018
A minimum of 6 Grizzled Skippers found yesterday at Staunton Quarry in north Leicestershire, a new species for myself. All the expected species also seen including Brimstone, Orange Tip, Holly Blue and Speckled Wood.

Nobody? I'll be down that way this Tuesday/Wednesday and given the weather this weekend I'm hoping to connect with the species if I can find a site

Re: Grizzled Skipper - Nottingham/Loughborough
Unfortunately that is too far to the west of where I am based during the week.
Anybody got any info for sites closer to my requested area?

Grizzled Skipper - Nottingham/Loughborough
I am going to be working in the midlands a lot in the coming couple of months so am hoping to finally be able to catch up with Grizzled Skipper, being from further north means it's a species I've never had the opportunity to look for before. From the research I have done there seems to be a few colo...

Re: August 2015
24 species seen yesterday in a trip down south, my most in a single day. I've never seen second generation Holly Blue up here in Lancashire so to see them at almost every site we visited was certainly a novelty! Hockley Woods - Purple Hairstreak, White-letter Hairstreak, Brimstone, Comma, Ringlet Wa...

Re: Chequered Skippers - Roybridge
Hi Peter I fully expected to be too late to see Skippers however I have friends currently staying at the opposite end of the Skippers range on the Ardnamurchan peninsula and today they observed several individuals so that has at least given me some hope. Where would you suggest specifically around R...

Re: Chequered Skippers - Roybridge
We are visiting this site on Monday and I have heard reports of still fresh looking Chequered Skippers being seen today in other parts of their range, so it may still be possible for me to see them, where do people suggest as per my original post?

Chequered Skippers - Roybridge
I am going on a field trip to Scotland with university from the 26th June - 3rd July. During this trip we visit Creag Meagaidh NNR and I am hoping that I might be able to persuade my lecturers to take a slight detour since the nearest Chequered Skipper sites appear to be around the Roybridge area, o...

Re: August 2014
Will be going down to Portland 2nd-10th September, does anybody know if there will be any second brood Adonis Blue butterflies still flying whilst I'm there? I went at the same time last year and failed to find any in 3 visits to the area around the High Angle Battery, so am hoping for better luck t...
Re: July 2013
Up to the Lake District yesterday where Mountain Ringlets put on a great show during the sunny spells above the Honister Pass. There were 10-15 in the small area I was watching, appearing from nowhere as soon as the sun came out. Lower down into the valleys near Borrowdale and Grange there were seve...

Re: Irton Fell - Mountain Ringlet flight time
The forecast for Friday looks reasonable, but to throw a spanner in the works I would only be able to get up to the lakes by public transport then. So are there any colonies that are within reach of someone who has to rely on the trains and buses to get there? Most likely will get a train to Windeme...

Re: Irton Fell - Mountain Ringlet flight time
Cheers for the info guys, I may well have a try for them in the next couple of weeks but that may be an issue given the current weather up here!

Re: Irton Fell - Mountain Ringlet flight time
Any chance they will still be flying at Irton Fell or have I missed my chance this year and either do a higher climb or wait till next year?

Northern Brown Argus or Common Blue
Went looking for Butterflies with a mate at Warton Crag in Lancashire today, and whilst there we spotted this little one.At the time we couldn't decide if it was a Northern Brown Argus or a female Common Blue, and even now after looking at pictures on the internet I'm still not sure! It seems to sho...
