Re: May 2013
Re Foulden Common, Norfolk. It was I to whom EricY referred. I saw 2 (maybe the same on twice) Grizzlies and managed a single shot before it vanished! Nice to meet you Eric.

However when this topic came up I could not resist the challenge. I have twice had a Swallowtail in the garden, Dark Green Fritillaries are ...

Despite the Public Holiday Weekend weather there was still at least one second brood Swallowtail flying at Strumpshaw Fen RSPB reserve this afternoon. (Also Comma, Red Admiral, Tortoiseshell and Speckled Wood)

Grafton Wood
I am intending to visit Grafton shortly particularly for Brown Hairstreak. Can anyone give me any advice re best areas to search, weather, time of day etc. Maybe some of the 'experts' are likely to visit during next week?

Re: Picos de Europa.
Thanks for that Guy, I was pretty convinced, especially after looking at your website, but I'm no expert especially in europe as opposed to the UK.
I live on the Norfolk coast where our only local frit is Dark Green.
Regards, TedP.

Re: Picos de Europa.
Re Picos visit, did you stay at Tudes near Potes?
Perhaps someone could identify this frit for me, taken in that area late June.

Saw my first Swallowtail of the year this morning at Hickling (Norfolk Wildlife Trust) despite the wind. Photography impossible though. TedP

Re: Graylings & Walls Norfolk Coast
Graylings have been on the wing here in Winterton for about 2 weeks now as have Dark Green Fritillaries. I had both in my garden at the weekend (26th) and my first Painted Lady on 27th. Still waiting for Hummingbird Hawk moths.

Not sure about that. I've always wondered how many got destroyed during reedcutting - not much chance of survival once the bundle of reeds is part of a thatched roof! In fact many of the marshmen used to rescue the chrysalises, keep them over winter and release the adult. Another pic follows. TedP h...

Captive Breeding
Having just obtained a device to convert slides to digital, thought this series might be of interest- originals taken many years ago before legal protection. My wife used to take school parties to a Norfolk centre where the marshmen (reedcutters) would give her the occasional chrysalis which they ha...
