Re: What's this?
Cheers Nick
It had me foxed as the under wing not at all like the one one shown on page 107 of Lewington's Pocket Guide!
I didn't see the butterflies upper wing as I was messing about with my camera hence the query.

Re: July 2013
There were at least 3 Gatekeepers on show at Marbury Country Park, Cheshire today
.

Re: June 2013
Out on the local patch of Marbury Country Park, Cheshire and timed it perfect to see one Painted Lady going about its business. A patch lifer for me
.
Also fresh out were 5+ Meadow Browns and a single Common Blue.
Just wondered is this the most Northerly record so far?

No not somewhere in Scandinavia but a quality site up North that rarely gets a mention on these forums.
Last week in glorious sunshine I had the pleasure of watching 10+ Marsh Fritillaries going about their business.

LONG-TAILED BLUE in London
Got a message today there's a male Long-tailed Blue at East India Dock Basin, Blackwall. On the southside between entrance and wood. Seen at 13.30 then flew to canopy. No further details or messages (via twitter)
Good luck if you're going.

Re: July 2012
Out on my old local patch in the rarely mentioned on this forum County of Cheshire. First up two very showy White-letter Hairstreaks :D at the magnificent nature reserve at Moore, just East of the car park where the Elms start appearing. Also on the reserve many Comma, Large White, Red Admiral, Mead...
Re: July 2012
Called in at Arnside Knott just on the off chance something might show even though the weather was cloudy. To my surprise the car park was almost full of like minded souls vehicles who were busy scouring the adjacent hillside for butterflies. It was great to mingle and gain knowledge, swap stories a...
Re: June 2012
Whilst trying to track down Golden-ringed Dragonfly on Torver Common in the Lakes I came across an unexpected bonus, 5+ Dark Green Fritillaries 8) showing rather well on the footpath down to the stream. large skipper 007 (640x493).jpg On the grassy slopes nearby my first Large Skipper of the year pu...

Re: Sussex Kipper
Glad to be of assistance Neil, great photos as well. Being a Birder I've at least pipped you to the Monarch with 10+ seen from over 30 years of visiting their prime landfall of The Isles of Scilly.
See you on a Scillies twitch in the Autumn maybe.

Re: Irton Fell - Mountain Ringlet flight time
Popped up Irton Fell this Thursday afternoon when the sun appeared from behind the clouds. Bingo! 8+ Mountain Ringlets 8) performing around the first area of obvious rocks just after the gorse. Another one for the growing list. Met up with Sussex Kipper in the car park later and pointed him in the r...
Re: June 2012
Cheers Neil and Wurzel, it was 50/50 as I've never seen either before and I just could not get a glimpse of the underwing. I'm a rather decent birder (some say) who's new to Butterflies so its a learning curve each time I venture out. Actually doing Dragonflies as well but they're doing my head in.....
Re: June 2012
Out and about in Cumbria this bank holiday weekend I came across these two Fritillaries, I think they're Pearl-bordered rather than Small P-B am I right?

Somewhere on this site you can download a POI (Points of Interest) file for most of the British Butterfly sites. I know I did it for TomTom,
cheers
