Decent Compact
Hi there We need a new compact camera, I was thinking of Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS50 or the older Sony RX10, they are about £250. I am interested in your views, our view would ideally be the same as the loveliest images you put up. I don't use the zoom, but like to get in nice and cosy close. So I supp...
Re: July 2016
My goodness Marc, that first stunning picture, I must stop using my phone and get something half decent.
Re: July 2016
We have had a glorious infestation of Scarlet Tiger Moths in our back garden this year, last year just a couple of couples.
Oh, the picture has come out sideways, it is on a vertical Brachycome outside the kitchen window.

Re: June 2016
Hi Rosalyn
I knew it must be a moth caterpillar, my problem was that there were thousands to chose from.
Thanks very much for saving me a day or so of frustration.

Re: June 2016
We bumped in to lots of these caterpillars yesterday at Dungeness, as well as Hoggers himself, which was another pleasure. Didn't bump into any Small Coppers though, I only need to see one, is that too much to ask? These things are part of our calendar, part of our diary. Oh, sorry I must be feeling...

Re: March 2016
Got a chance to enjoy revisiting the spawn pond in an early afternoon spot of Spring sunshine at the local copse. Differing areas are regularly coppiced and it is rightly locally celebrated for its annual blaze of Bluebells whose scent was already laying down in the still warmed air. The area is on ...

Re: March 2016
More mounds of spawn from one of my favourite patches in Reigate this was the picture 3/3, last week it looked more or less just the same. I think it is frogs, although the area is most famous for it's Toad Crossing road signs. I must get a phone with a decent camera next time We went down to Pagham...

Re: January 2016
We have a huge greenhouse at the garden centre (no surprise there then) which now needs the yearly disinfecting and fumigation, I was so pleased to see the resident Red Admiral stretching its wings and having a little flap about on Monday 4/1. After some effort we managed to trap it and I put it out...

Re: December 2015
Tuesday 8/12, energetic Red Admiral in the large greenhouse, I work in a Garden Centre. Wednesday 9/12, torpid tatty Peacock awoken by the mechanic servicing our van, it had been in the engine bay tucked down by the air filter. I put in on some Ivy in the sun and poured a little sugar water there. I...
Re: June 2015
It was a hot afternoon on the last day of June and the sun was a demon I took Red for a walk in a hot Sefton park and I found a Red Admiral It was tatted and torn a bit battered and warn but still flying strong I waited for it to land and with camera in hand I got some photos I think Bobby Goldsbor...

Re: are these?
Well I thought Scarlet Tiger too possibly, and now you say Alkanet I say "OK, as we have no Comfrey!" Do any of you have a nice nettle patch in you garden for these winged flowers? Oh, here is an picture from the 90's of one (or is it a Jersey Tiger) whispering in our eldest daughter's ear...

are these?
what a lovely evening Here I hope are 2 images, (it all seems too easy). The first one I think is a male Adonis Blue, but there were 2 on Denbies Hillside sparring but never really settling, and I couldn't get close. The second I think is a Small Tort crawling across the kitchen wall, do they eat an...

Re: Red Peacock
Thanks for your replies... Yes, I thought it was more likely to be misidentification, a flashy Red Admiral perhaps. I did wonder about something from Wisley too, it is about 10 miles southwest of us. Martin thanks for lending me your knowledge (I will try & retain it, although even if I don't I ...

Red Peacock
Hi there This is my first post as I have had nothing remarkable to contribute before, I think the world of your forum & check it regularly, which is always a joy especially now as the procession of treats has just begun. We are lucky to live close to Denbies & Bookham Common, really though t...
