Re: Coul Links crowdfunding campaign
It's not that far from Inverness & is being funded/proposed by a billionaire rival of Trump's. They are aiming for the tourist market not the locals. At least up here many local golf courses are closing because of dwindling nos/climbing membership fees & there are already 6 courses within 15...

I think that you will find that this is a common refrain amongst most, if not all, here ...TurquoiseTranquility wrote: (I have to admit, I'm quite upset by just how few butterflies I see here summer after summer compared to where I grew up)

Hi Pete,
I wouldn't consider myself expert - for that I would suggest Andrew Masterman or Tom Prescott. However, we have been experiencing terrific weather for the last week or so - the question is for how much longer?

Re: Newbie question - is it ok to buy larvae for breeding?
The only down side to taking larva from the wild (assuming that you only take a few of those present) is the possibility that they may have already been parasitised & you end up hatching a wasp instead ... The Painted Lady kits from Insect Lore will have been bred in a sterile environment. They ...

Re: Chequered Skipper - returning to England?
Thirdly...does anybody REALLY know the full status of Chequered SKipper in Scotland...given the coverage of North Western Scotland...has all suitable habitat ever really been surveyed? Given the terrain & climate, no. ... but a fair amount of it has been looked at based on computer modelling of...

Re: help with northern species
bit late to the party but for the most part I am going to back up Pete. For NBA talk to Iain Cowe but Jim Asher could give you details of a couple of colonies on the Solway. The colony on Arthur's Seat is where it was originally described from which may add a little something to seeing it. Probably ...

Hi, You might find this a useful forum as it is more local to you. http://www.eastscotland-butterflies.org.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=5 Also, may I ask if you have sent in a record for your sighting? Small Skipper seems to be pushing north better on the East coast whereas Large Skipper seems to be doi...

Re: Essex Skipper range expansion
Butterfly Conservation says that Essex distribution has doubled in the last few decades being widespread in Southern & Central England. Certainly both Small & Large have been pushing North for the last few years & I can't see why Essex should be any different. As it happens I was also lo...

I've had Purple Hairstreak in a moth trap on Inchcailloch in Loch Lomond - quite surprised me at the time (although I knew that they were present on the island)!

Re: Small Blue returns to Ayrshire?
One other interesting thing is that last year due to weather etc. we were unable to translocate any adults to the site. Despite no adults being seen last Summer that means that this year's sighting is at least 2nd generation! Even more promising.
