Took this around 2 weeks ago when a flock visited Darley Dale near Matlock Derbys, also saw a flock fo around 30+ at Allestree Derby. Couldnt re-size my best effort to post it for some reason, this was the next best option. Hope you like :D

Read a posting on a French site reporting 1000's of Painted Ladies at Creux Du Van Switzerland nr French border on Aug 1st, IF we get a settled spell perhaps we may see a few more ? Would go a small way to making amends for the poor show we have had thus far ! :mrgreen:

It seems this may be an aberration called "parvipuncta" due to the crescent shaped discoidal spots on the wings, awaiting confirmation from BCHQ.

YAY !!! sighted a Male Brimstone today at Hilcote Derbys, it flew across the road in front of me. Have seen them in this same spot for the past two years, there must be foodplant nearby .

Red Admiral

Took this last year in our garden only just noticed the white spots within the red markings on the forewings. Dont think I have seen this before, has anyone else ?

Didnt manage to get to see one last year but managed to snap this by chance at Fermyn in 2010. It landed right next to me on the main path to the parking spot opposite the Glider club. Can anyone tell me if this is a Female ? , couldnt manage to get a Purple sheen off it no matter what angle I took ...

Hi Goldie, my mother in law was bemoaning the fact that all her Blackbirds have disappeared. I think the answer lies with the abundance of berries in the wild at the moment. Blackbirds, Redwings and Fieldfares are having a wild old time feeding up on the hawthorn berries they will end up fat as Tics...

Thankyou Gentlemen !, not to worry, it just presents the opportunity for another visit !! . I was erring on the side of DGF, but not having experienced HBF before I could not be certain. Maybe I will try an early morning visit next time when they are not flying round like Sebastian Vettel ! :) regar...
