My first Wall Brown of the year today up in Yorkshire at Flamborough Head. Sadly no Alpine Accentor.
Over 100 Grey Seals chilling at low tide in the sunshine was a fine sight.

Re: April 2025
I see that Small, Common, and Adonis Blue have all had their first sightings.
Twenty-seven species have now been seen this year. The twenty-five showing on the first sightings page plus Large Tortoiseshell and Clouded Yellow.
Edit: Make that twenty-eight. Cryptic Wood White emerged.

Re: Dublin
I'll be in Dublin in mid May. Does anyone have any tips on where to go for Marsh Fritillary and Cryptic Wood White within reasonable distance from the city? Ideally by public transport. Weather permitting I'll have a day. Thanks Edwards I'm sorry this doesn't help much, but you may be able to do so...

Re: April 2025
The first sightings page often seems somewhat lagging behind, e.g. no Grizzled Skipper yet. Is that because they have to be corroborated?David Lazarus wrote: ↑Sun Apr 06, 2025 4:10 pm A female Wall sighting reported at Two Tree Island, South Essex on Friday.![]()

Re: Large Tortoiseshell.
Thanks very much for the help with directions; David, Bugboy et al. I saw 2-3 today in great conditions. Also present were loads of Brimstone, Commas, a few Peacock, and a Red Admiral. A long drive there and back from Wetherby. I set off at 6.30ish this morning, and have just got in. Nice to meet Z...

Thanks very much.
The car park grid reference would be very helpful as well. I thought someone had shared it previously, but I can no longer find it.
Thanks.

Re: Large Tortoiseshell.
A good session with them this afternoon, multiples seen in various parts of the forest complex. Very little action before 2 but after that until 4pm it's all go! Hi Bugboy, I'm coming down from Leeds tomorrow to try for them. Do you have any specific areas, where I've the best chance? Any grid refe...

Re: Large Tortoiseshell.
Next week looks quite promising. Tuesday to Thursday, especially Wednesday and Thursday. I've put in Ashford, and it's full sunshine for most of the three days, with temperatures up to twelve degrees on occasion. Just need the locals to help out and see if there's any activity on Tuesday, and I'll b...

They ought to be, Zayed. March is a very active month for them with the males holding territory. Thanks David. Just waiting for the weather to improve now... may have to wait a while :? :) The weekends looking promising, particularly Saturday (at least on the apps on my phone!) The BBC is saying on...

Re: Large Tortoiseshell.
In addition to the grid reference provided up thread, does anyone have any more grid references or directions for any of the others seen in the area, particularly the site where six were reported on Birdguides. Wasn't clear if the six were together, or a summation of a few records in the general are...

Re: Large Tortoiseshell.
What will be the outcome for these butterflies that have come out of hibernation following these recent warm temperatures, if there was a period now, of say two weeks where the temperatures might not get above ten degrees? The forecast is now for temperatures below the seasonal average. Notwithstan...

Re: Large Tortoiseshell.
Were there records from the Orlestone/Hamstreet area last year? I don't recall seeing any. I remember Knepp and Portland, I think it was but not here. Also, how long might one expect to see them at this site, given the right weather conditions, before it goes quiet again? Thanks. https://www.ukbutt...

Re: Lulworth Skipper Dorset
Thanks both for the information. You've got me a little worried that I'm slightly late now. I thought they flew well into August. Probably just a sign of the times with climate change that they're earlier. Hopefully some still around.
