I only managed to take photos of a Small Copper once last season - back in May on a trip to Essex.
This lovely ab. caeruleopunctata posed very kindly with it's wings open almost horizontally (they usually keep them at an annoyingly acute angle for photographers don't they ).
It was sunbathing on a small Oak sapling and didn't seem to notice me frantically trying to get parallel to it with my tripod.
My best Small Copper photo to date I think.
