American Painted Lady in Canary Islands

Post by Pete Eeles »

I have a friend who is looking to photograph American Painted Lady in the Canaries (ideally, Tenerife). Can anyone recommend the best island and sites? Thanks!

Cheers,

- Pete

American Painted Lady.jpg
I have only ever seen it on La Palma, back in 2012, when it was flying at the Barranco del Agua, in the north east, during the first week in May (2 individuals seen). I believe a larva was also found on La Palma by someone, a bit further north at the Cubo de La Galga, a year or two earlier.

I revisited the Barranco del Agua site this year at around the same time, but failed to see American Painted Lady again, either there or elsewhere on the island.

Not sure if this helps!

Regards.

Pete
