Be useful to know where these were taken! Not UK, I trust.

Nooooo... sorry, high in the Haute Savoie, on a cool afternoon in July with more cloud than sun. This was the only Lycaenid up there but shared the meadow with Alpine Heath, Moorland Clouded Yellow and Blind Ringlet.... bliss!!
On the subject of this Country... pleeease can't a budding Prof Thomas bring this species back here ( personal opinion only, and I know all the reasons it won't happen, sigh :( )

I personally can't see what the problem would be. Oh, someone will complain that it would be messing around with nature. As if humans aren't constantly doing that anyway, generally in a destructive manner!

No difficulty for me in choosing my favourite mazarine blue of 2011 - it was this striking aberration, photographed at the Simplon Pass. I've never seen anything like it before:

For now I won't go near the question of the extinction or possible reintroduction of this species!

Guy you beat me to it. I'm at work and didn't have my photos to hand. Anyhow your photo is better than ours of this beauty.
I'll have to post another one now.
Cheers Paul

Lovely butterfly...it is very sad that the superb Victorian field naturalists did not have the concept of conservation, otherwise it would probably still be with us.
