Chequered Skipper - Favourite Photo of 2015

Chequered Skipper - Favourite Photo of 2015

Week 3

So continues sequence of posts giving one and all the opportunity to showcase their favourite shots of 2014!

Please could I ask that everyone waits until a topic has been opened by me for a particular species before posting photos? Of course our overseas members are very welcome to fill in the obvious gaps relating to rare UK migrants. As like last year details of locations, dates, times and circumstances would be welcome as would any accompanying stories and anecdotes or other observations of behaviour and interesting other points.

Have a goodun

For reasons that I'm sure don't need spelling out, this is my favourite picture of chequered skipper this year:

Could win an award by virtue of it being the only one in 2015, Guy!

I can't remember any of the 'regulars' making a pilgrimage to 'McSkipper' territory this year.

My final species of mainland butterflies pulled me up to Scotland this year, after 3 years planned that fell through. My thanks to Downland Boy for helping to make the week extremely successful and enjoyable. The Skipper was all that I had hoped for as well. Brilliant!!

Great effort, Bob.

I'm sure you enjoyed your trip just as much as I did when I visited this region in 2014?

A great week Bob. My favourite is this male which was sporting a nice golden wash in the basal area of each forewing.

As most know, I've been monitoring several larvae - and can't wait to write the report. I'm determined to find a pupa next spring. In the meantime ...
1st instar larva
1st instar larva
4th instar larva
4th instar larva
5th (final) instar larva - in typical Scottish weather

Hi Pete.

I don't normally comment but FABULOUS post, Pete. I love the video footage and that soundtrack is to die for!

Good hunting.

Kindest regards. Mark

Glorious stuff, Pete.

Practically any larval image is highly creditworthy, but to capture Chequered Skipper early stages like that is phenomenal.

Well done.

I was hoping for a Small Pearl-bordered to join in, but in truth I was struggling with this duo at Glasdrum in June

That's still worthy of a 9.8 out of 10. A PBF would have been perfection!
