The Trouble With Orchids!!

Post by badgerbob »

I came across this fresh, although with slightly damaged hindwings, Chalkhill Blue today. He was enjoying the numerous Pyramidal Orchids going from one to another. As several of us have seen, butterflies that nectar on these often end up with pollen sacs attached to their proboscis. This was the case here as the unfortunate creature tries to get rid of these sacs.

Good observation Bob, the second-to-last photo makes it very clear. :)

Just remembered that last year in the same area a Small Skipper was having the same problem, this one however has even more bits stuck to it.
