Extraordinary Wasp

Post by CJB »

Good afternoon UKB'ers,

I eventually managed to photograph this wasp, which I have identified to be a 'cuckoo wasp'.

It is roughly 70mm long and patrols a small territory, looking for other insect nests to lay its eggs in, hence the name.

I know little about them but was blown away by its colouring, which literally glows.

Its face reminds me of 'Greedo' from Star Wars!

Has anyone else seen one of these?

Flutter on!
