Further to my photo of C.cithaeron taken on Mauritius in September(see personal diary), and thought initially to be a first record for the island, I have now heard from Steve Collins from the African Butterfly Research Institute that apparently some idiot brought some pupae to Mauritius from Africa several years ago and released the adults!! There have been several sightings over the last couple of years and it appears that the species might have obtained a foothold there. I guess it might eventually be included in the Mauritius list, but for now it's a bit of a bummer when thought I'd found a goody .

Good that you've got to the bottom of it, Tony, even if the result isn't what you were looking for.

Re: Blue-spotted Charaxes
It would have been a coup to get your name in the history books, but it's a great butterfly to have seen anyway. Let's hope it doesn't prove as destructive as certain other introduced and invasive species in Mauritius ...
