Iain Cowe - BC Outstanding Volunteer award

Post by Pete Eeles »

Congratulations to UKB member Iain Cowe (IAC), who was recognised yesterday for the amazing work he has done in the borders, especially for his work in rediscovering the "extinct" Small Blue in the area, but also his drive in developing an interest in butterflies with various communities in the area. He's even motivated a local group in Burnmouth to act as local guardians of the local Northern Brown Argus population! I've met up with Iain a couple of times and it's always a pleasure to spend time with him.

Well done Iain!

Cheers,

- Pete

Many thanks everyone and some high praise from those that have inspired me. Its true that I need and needed little inspiration where Butterflies are concerned. Like many others here, its an obsession that never settles, even in the depths of the long winter. By the power of the Internet there is a sense perhaps for the first time in history of a like minded community that grows in strength annually through its dedication to the cause. And that is what drives the engine now I think of discovery and learning, sharing knowledge and experiences, and a slight competitive edge as always. :) More to do, more to do.

Many thanks,

Iain.

Excellent news and well done, Iain. It's almost like Team GB at the Olympics all over again :)

Hopefully, I'll get up to SE Scotland soon for artaxerxes!

Congratulations to Iain. He was very helpful to me this year with info on how to find the NBA @ Burnmouth when I contemplated driving a 200 mile round trip from our holiday in Durham especially to photograph the NBA. Info was spot on & found them in a short time, enabling me to keep the wife happy with a visit to a NT property on way back. Eric

Many thanks Eric for your kind words. I was very glad I was able to point you in the right direction this summer for NBA. It all worked out rather well it seems with the wife kept happy as well.. :) Best Wishes to you both.
