A New Butterfly survery- To Take Part

Post by Shirley Roulston »

A New Butterfly survey, based on the BTO/JNCC/RSPB in 2009, targeted at assessing the abundance of common and widespread butterfly species.

To Take Part
The butterfly survey is optional for BBS recorders and a free butterfly ID guide will be provided. To take part, register by emailing bbs@bto.org, or write to WCBS at BTO. For more information on the WCBS project see www.butterfly-conservation.org/wcbs.

I have just taken the information from the BTO news magazine March-April 2009 issue. Sounds interesting.

Well worth doing - Somerset branch has been involved with the pilot and the last couple of years I had two 1km squares to walk, twice. I seem to have got lucky with the (random) allocation of squares, as the species list included Marbled White, Small Copper, Common Blue, Brown Argus and Essex Skipper, all of which are decidedly local in the 10km square in question.
