Interesting observations on the egg laying habits of the Holly Blue. Initially reported by Dave Miller in the forums section with contributions from others viewtopic.php?t=9308&start=0#p119955

A report of Brimstones laying eggs on Russian Vine (Fallopia baldschuanica) on 25th and 27th May 2017 in a Lincolnshire garden. Observed and photographed by Pete Smith and reported on UKB forum viewtopic.php?f=4&p=126631#p126619. The larvae did not survive on the plant and whilst this appears to be a case of confusion on behalf of the butterfly, it raises some interesting questions about how they identify their host plants.
