Website Enhancements

Post by Pete Eeles »

Hi all - I'd like to get a sense of features/enhancements that members would like to see, especially with things quietening down on the butterfly front. I keep a list that I try and get through as best I can, but I'm not always aware of what enhancements are needed - so here's your chance to have a say! I'll leave this running for a couple of weeks before deciding priorities, but if you do have any improvements then please let me know (just reply to this thread). The current list (in no particular order) is:
  • Update species descriptions based on latest info.
    Complete similar species descriptions
    Complete taxonomy descriptions
Complete the glossary (including substitution or “alt text” for terms so that these are highlighted in the browser)
Complete aberration descriptions for all species
Add descriptions of habitat types (and link to these from the species pages)
Add world distribution of each species
Provide information on meaning of latin names
Add history of latin names for each species
Add history of vernacular names for each species
Update site information and include information mentioned in relevant publications and websites
Add links to http://www.leps.it for all species
Refresh books listing (new editions: Britain's Butterflies, Thomas and Lewington, new books: Dunbar, Howse (psyche), Barkham - The Butterfly Isles etc.)
Attach reviews to books, DVDs, apps where relevant
Errata: Clouded Yellow, Painted Lady have multiple broods (Thomas)
Errata: History section (a few errors and needs to be brought up to date)
Errata: Fix hiding of online status in forums
Cheers,

- Pete

Adding world distribution would be most interesting. The usual spiel (e.g. in Tolman & Lewington) is to describe a species as ranging 'from the Iberian peninsular to Japan'.
