Hi all,
When I "go quiet" on the forums it's invariably because I'm busy doing other UKB-related things! This time, it's the creation of "Taxonomy Notes". The rationale is this - with the recent taxonomy changes, some of the historic information on various subspecies and forms has no home, because it's no longer valid based on current taxonomy. These "lost souls" have now been placed in a new section labelled "Taxonomy Notes" on the relevant species pages, and a summary (linked to from the Taxonomy page) can be found here:
http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/taxonomy_notes.php
This has taken quite some time due to the amount of "trawling through literature" required but is now done (and I can now unwind back to the various taxa descriptions!).
Also (because you might miss it!), I've just published an article on the Irish Mountain Ringlet - http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/reports_epiphron.php
Cheers,
- Pete

Re: Taxonomy Notes
Hi Pete,
I'm sure with the vast number of UK butterflies members that a few will recheck these & other localities out to try & discover the species in Ireland!! Would be a great discovery. Well done Pete for bringing this to our attention. I always wondered about this species being in pretty unknown parts of Ireland after reading about it back in the 1970's in E.B.Ford's "Butterflies" book (New Naturalist no:1).
Very inspiring stuff!
Cheers for making so much effort to inform us all of corners of Lepidoptera almost forgotten such as this!
All the best,
Lee Slaughter (Cornwall).
