Re: July 2013

I would estimate around 20 males and about 10 female silver-studded blues active at the Bovey Heathfield site in Devon yesterday afternoon, most of the males looked fairly battered but the females looked fresh. This is a really tiny site located away from the main heathland and behind some industria...

Re: June 2013

Spent an hour on Giant's Hill at Cerne Abbas yesterday afternoon, it was overcast but brightish. There were plenty of Small Heaths and two rather worn Marsh Fritillaries.

Re: June 2013

Hi ust wondering whether any Small Blues have been sighted this year in the car park location at Bath, if so I would like to know the location of the car park so that I could make a visit either tomorrow or on Wednesday. Thank you. Odd Down Park & Ride, ST733615 - this is normally a late site (...

Re: February 2013

I think that Orange Tip is one of the magical species mention by Lewington an Thomas as being impossible to find in the pupal stage, (another being the Holly Blue), I have actually found the pupa of both species fairly often (generally when I was not specifically looking for them!). The only comment...

Re: November 2012

I think there were report back in the winter of 2010/2011 of a swallow overwintering in Cornwall and being seen up until the ...

Re: November 2012

Amazing that there are still Whites active at this time of year. Its an ideal place for a warm micro climate, south facing cliff, with recessess protected from the wind and able to retain heat. I guess this explains how Clouded Yellows manage to overwinter further east on the coast. I suspect that ...
