Re: Wurzel

Larkhill 19-09-2017 As I was due to stop off at Teddy’s Vets for his meat (the excellent Ronniethe poo no less!) I made sure my camera was ready as I’d also be able to sneak in about 10 minutes at Larkhill… I started at the main Car Park and made my way down the Eastbound path but it was very quiet ...

Re: Ringlet – Favourite Photo of 2017

Ringlet This was taken on the same day as my Purple Hairstreak and is my favourite as it’s my best ‘arete’ to date in terms of lack of spots. Also it was taken during an interlude/intermission from photographing a White-letter Hairstreak. Mind you when it came to selecting Ringlets I didn’t have an ...

Re: Red Admiral – Favourite Photo of 2017

Red Admiral This was another shot taken with my nieces’ assistance at Kingston Lacey which I’ve waxed lyrical about before. It’s my favourite for that reason mainly but also because it clearly shows the white spot that makes it a ‘bialbata’ from the underside. DSC_1244 - Copy-002.JPG Have a goodun W...

The Devenish 16-09-2017 With the kids back at school and my sister back in Oz things were settling down and we were getting back into our usual rhythm. That being said I managed to fit in an afternoon at The Devenish between the weekend chores. The weather was settled and so for once I wasn’t racing...

Cheers Neil :D I can remember them flying around my Grans rockery when I was about 7 or 8 and then when I got into butterflies seriously 7 years ago they were (and still are in most places) decidedly uncommon :( Cheers Bugboy :D Indeed - but if I wasn't behind with my PD then people might think I'd ...

Andrews right on the IDs; Shoveler, Goosanders (great shots BTW  ) and a Willow Tit, I was a bit unsure about that one to start with but the paler area on the wings sold it to me as a Willow Tit, an ID feature I'd not been aware of before :D   Great Bullfinch as well :D Gl...

Re: Andrew555

Great shots Andrew :D I've enjoyed staring at the Starling murmuration to see what beautiful shapes pop into view - so far I've seen a slightly deformed Snowy Owl and a turtle swimming towards me - though my imagination was working overtime making that one out

Another great report Neil, great shots with a Cloudy  and many taken at Durdle Door (my favourite place ever) but the best has to be the male Adonis - it jumps of the screen - I thought I could touch it for a moment there

Great report Essex :D I'm quite envious as I've only been to Slimbridge twice now  (though the first time I saw Tree Sparrows, Greenland Whitefronts and a wild American Wigeon there :D). looks like there are a couple of grey geese in amongst the Canadas and some Dunlin too :D  That...

Re: Purple Hairstreak – Favourite Photo of 2017

Purple Hairstreak This was a cracking year for Purple Hairstreak as they started coming down fairly regularly and there have been some stunning images of this species from 2017. My personal favourite came from an amazing day with my girls at Bentley Wood. I only got a smattering of shots but these c...

Re: Pearl-bordered Fritillary – Favourite Photo of 2017

Pearl-bordered Fritillary This was my favourite because it demonstrates the wonderful camouflage shown by this species; not something I’d have thought of it before. When I think about Pearls I usually imagine vivid orange butterflies fluttering around the vegetation or as a brightly coloured and che...
