Re: Padfield

Amazing you can find anything flying in those conditions, Guy. That image of La Batiaz looks almost ghostly, quite incompatible with butterfly activity!

Re: jackz432r

Thanks for the image putting the habitat in context, Paul. At this time of year, those butterflies that are still active DO tend to keep to these microclimates.

Re: Neil Freeman

You're garden is a proper little wildlife haven, Neil. Butterflies, moths and birds aplenty. There looks to be plenty to keep you interested through the winter.

Re: Highways England A27 Arundel Bypass Consultation

A very good riposte by Mr Barkham. Are we REALLY so insistent on saving a few minutes from our commute to cut swathes through landscape such as this?

I'm practically speechless, Dave!

Does your patch have undersoil heating?

I understand, Neil.

My donation will be forthcoming nonetheless.....as soon as we know what it's for! :D

Re: millerd

Your next mission should you choose to accept it is to photograph one on some frost encrusted Holly berries on Christmas Day Dave :D I've made some joking remarks about Dave's ability to conjure up late season Holly Blues from the ether lately, but given this latest sighting I can't be 100% sure th...

Getting close to nectaring White Letter Hairstreaks is always a notable moment, Goldie. I'm not surprised it proved to be such a highlight for you.

Paul Harfield wrote:Thanks both for your comments :D . Yes David I was very pleased with that Red Admiral count, but it was in fact 28th October.

Thanks for clarifying, Paul, although it's still notable for the back end of October!

More great exposure for your conservation work, Neil, as well as for some of the volunteers!

I don't think I can wait for your big announcement though. If I make a donation can I know it in advance? :)

Re: Padfield

Absolutely amazing, Guy. Your part of Europe throws up extremes seemingly all the time.

I doubt any of us south of the Pennines will see snow like that all winter, which is a shame as there are thousands of pet Jack Russells that would love it as much as Minnie!

Re: Bugboys mission

Things seemingly going a bit slack everywhere now, Bugboy. These recent frosts have finished off most of the butterflies that remained so even a Red Admiral is notable right now.

Re: GM Butterflies, hmmmmm

Reading this makes me feel uncomfortable. I've precious little objection to homo sapiens fiddling around with genetics for bona fide human health reasons, but this kind of meddling appears to have minimal (if any) justification. Like Neil has posted, we seemingly do it because we can , not because w...

Belated good wishes from me too, Pete (although I have a verifiable excuse for my tardiness!)

Was good to chat to you today (albeit fairly briefly) and I wish you all the best both today and going forward.
