Re: Very Rare Moth!

Well done Sussex! Beautiful picture! Like you, I think the Hawks are cool and here's one on our Budlia last year, my first attempt of freezing such a fst flier! Unfortunately the Budlia has died from Honey Fungus so one source of butterflies and moths has gone :( http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...

Large Blue

Today I made the effort, before it was too late this year, to visit Collard Hill and hopefully see the Large Blue. I was not disappointed! I saw three of them two I managed to get close enough to snap. There were also many young Marbled Whites, Small Heaths, Ringlets etc. http://i204.photobucket.com...

Re: My walk today.

Thank's for that Annie. Well I'll stand corrected! Wonder why they don't call it a Marbled Brown then??? I saw the Hairstreak on top of Fry's hill, the large hill to the north of Axbridge, which has four access points from the A371 bypass. One opposite the old Axbridge station building, one about 30...

My walk today.

Being bright and even sunny on and off, I was hoping to see quite a few butterflies but was disappointed with only two sightings - a Ringlett and a Marbled White which, incidently, is not listed under the Pieridae (whites) heading on the home page?? http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb42/cheddar-ca...

Re: is this camera any good??

When I went digital I went from Minolta to the Canon 350D and have had excellent results over the past couple of years from it. I recently upgraded to the Canon 40D and it is brilliant! For your money you might want to look at the new Canon 450D, body only, and then get a good lense. All my wildlife...

Re: Green Hairstreak

Thank you for the replys gentlemen. This one was captured on Fry's Hill, behind Axbridge (BS26). Plenty of wild flowers and open spaces, also a large quarry which unfortunately is rapidly destroying the hill! As I said, I have been watching butterflies around here for the best part of sixty years bu...

Green Hairstreak

Am I right in thinking that this is a Green Hairstreak? Are these rare by any chance? This is the first one I've ever seen in sixty years of looking at butterflies so amquite excited about it :D
