Re: Susie

Happy New Year folks! I'm likely to be off to pastures new in 2021, leaving my beloved garden and Sussex behind, but I did get a late bonus of a brown hairstreak in my garden on 29th September this year.

Re: Susie

Hi Dave! :D It was mainly cloudy, I got there at about 10 and was wandering around for an hour without seeing anything as it was cool and overcast. Then the sun came out intermittently and so did the butterflies ....but they were flying fast and not really stopping. Then it grew overcast so I left a...

Re: Susie

It's been quite a while since I've been butterflying but a trip to Denbies Hillside this morning turned up a good few species; green hairstreak, dingy skipper, brown argus, common blue, Adonis Blue, small heath and a beautiful small copper. Hopefully numbers here will continue to build.

Thank you all for your replies, which are really interesting and I'm grateful you took the time to add your thoughts. Looks like I have some tough decisions to make as they all look good.

Butterflying holidays

I'm thinking of going on a butterflying holiday this summer. I'd like to go on an organised trip and wondered if members here could recommend any organisations please?

Re: Winter Social 2018

This looks to be a great opportunity and I'm trying to manage it this year as it would be good to meet people. Would also really enjoy a summer gathering/picnic at one of the often mentioned special sites (that I wouldn't see normally). Or maybe you do that and I missed it. Hope to be there. Peter ...

Re: Info needed - Bentley Wood, Hampshire

A big thank you from me. We did indeed see purple emperors this morning (at least one) so I’m very pleased :D

Hi Jack,

She’s been butterflying for long enough to have seen those. She is now keen to see Purple Emperor hence my request.

Re: Info needed - Bentley Wood, Hampshire

Hello!

I'm going to Bentley on Tuesday with a lady new to butterflying and I would love to show her a purple emperor.

Could someone please recommend the best part of the wood to head towards for them?

What else is out there at the moment?

Many thanks for your help x

Re: millerd

Tuesday 8th May. Another sunny and hot day, so an early start was called for again. South to Denbies this time, and the curse of the M25 meant it took far longer than it should have done. However, by complete serendipity this also meant I arrived at exactly the same moment as Susie, who was on her ...
